Egg and Mushroom Tartine

Crunchy rustic bread, sautéed mushrooms, a slice of your favourite cheese, and topped with a delicious fried egg.

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) salted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 lbs (0.7 kg) assorted mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 slice rustic bread
  • 1 slice Swiss cheese
  • Salt and pepper


  1. In a frying pan, heat butter. Add garlic and mushrooms and cook for 4 to 5 minutes or until softened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper.

  2. Toast a piece of the rustic bread, and top with a slice of Swiss or your favourite cheese.

  3. In a small frying pan, fry egg until white is set and yolk is still slightly soft, about 3 minutes or until desired doneness.

  4. To serve, place toast slice with cheese and top with mushrooms. Top with a fried egg.
