Meet Our Farmers: Gislain Houle

Quebec 2nd Generation Egg Farmer

Gislain Houle is a second-generation egg farmer from Saint-Germain-de-Grantham, Quebec. His father started in the egg production business when he was only 19, looking for a way to work closely with animals and get back to nature, and continues to be active in the farm's operation.

When Gislain took over Le Meunier 8  farm he decided to modernize the operation. “We use highly automated, leading edge technology,” he says. “I can monitor the entire hen house right from my smart phone.”

Though his farm is more advanced than ever, Gislain knows it’s only as good as the people that work there. So he’s employed the best people he knows—his nieces, his nephews and his own children who pitch in and collect eggs on weekends and during the summer. His brother Christian and his mom, Simone Clair, are also shareholders in the farm.

“We are very fortunate to be Canadian egg farmers,” he says, “it’s like being part of one big family.”
