Meet Our Farmers: Tim Cox

Nova Scotia 2nd Generation Egg Farmer

When Seaview Poultry farm in Starr’s Point decided to expand in 2013, farmer Tim Cox needed to build a new barn to house the additional hens. Together with the other shareholders in the family business, his parents Chris and Susan and brother Warren, Tim opted to build a fully enriched computer controlled barn. In this type of housing, the hens live in small groups with access to perches and a curtained area where they can lay their eggs.

“The birds are very comfortable,” says Tim. “The health and well-being of our birds is very important to us, as it is to all farmers."

Tim and his family also grow crops they feed to the hens and raise beef cattle and pullets. He likes the challenges that come with farming and working through them to provide high-quality, nutritious food for consumers every day.
